As someone who is an author, I am often asked to write reviews of other people’s books. The vast majority of all the books I review are focused upon the adventures and exploits of other people. Island of Paradise by Jonathan Downes, however, is very different, in the sense that it’s a book in which I play a central role. Nevertheless, I hope this has not influenced my opinion of the book! It’s a highly entertaining, warts and all study of what occurs during the course of an expedition of the Chupacabra kind…

It was in the summer of 2004 that Jon and I headed off to the rain-forests of Puerto Rico, courtesy of the SyFy Channel, who wanted to film us chasing the Chupacabra and UFOs for its now-defunct show Proof Positive – which was a pretty well executed combination of The X-Files meets CSI, albeit in a non-fiction format. For seven days we rampaged and roamed around the island in search of the vampire-like beast, and heard tale after tale of crashed UFOs, dead aliens, bizarre conspiracies linking the Chupacabra with extra-terrestrial experimentation, secret military operations, black Flying Triangles, and much more.

Imagine charging your phone as you walk, thanks to a paper-thin generator embedded in the sole of your shoe. This futuristic scenario is now a little closer to reality. Scientists from the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have developed a way to generate power using harmless viruses that convert mechanical energy into electricity.

The government has denied their existence for decades. Popular media portrays UFO's as science fiction, and their believers as crackpots. Yet images of them have been seen in cave paintings, in religious artworks and elsewhere for centuries. Many people don't believe they exist, but then again most people never look up and watch the sky. So, before everyone laughs and says I'm crazy, let's look at the evidence.

A SOHO watcher on YouTube claims a new NASA UFO coverup after live streaming video from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory was disabled in the last few days. What's it all about?

The poster to the YouTube channel, rob19791, is claiming that after another video he'd posted went viral, the live streaming images from the solar observatory were disabled, ostensibly due to what NASA calls a "false trigger" on the detector.

Here's NASA's official announcement:

"SOHO went into 'Emergency Sun Reacquisition' mode on Friday May 4, 2012, caused by a false trigger of the Coarse Sun Pointing Attitude Anomaly Detector. We are working on the recovery of the spacecraft to normal mode."

This incident was supposedly triggered, claims the poster on YouTube, after a new image of a gigantic UFO was spotted on Thursday, May 3,

2012.

If you’ve seen the trailer for “Prometheus,” the dark, hotly-anticipated prequel to Ridley Scott’s “Alien” franchise, you probably got a healthy dose of some of the best that sci-fi filmmaking can offer: shrieking astronauts in spherical-glass helmets, ships that travel at light-speed to craggy, blue-tinted planets and spinning holographic star charts.

All the stuff that tickles our imagination and makes us ponder humanity’s space-faring future. It may be a surprise then, that the man who wrote the original screenplay for “Prometheus” doesn’t see our reality planning out that way, rather neatly knocking on the head the notion that much of what we see and read in science fiction, is a hoped-for precursor to real technology.

That's his opinion. ;-)  To read more, click here.
