November 17, 2011 Hoboken, New Jersey: Doug Auld, 58, is a professional fine artist who was born in Queens, New York, grew up in Paramus, New Jersey and now lives in Hoboken not far from New York City. As a teenager, Doug had talent working with his hands in carpentry and the mechanics of cars. Then at 20, his brother introduced him to oil painting. That medium connected to his spirit and thirty-eight years later, Doug Auld is known internationally for his oil portraits and his work in the State of Grace Project in which he does painting portraits of burn survivors. Among his exceptional portraits is U. S. Corporal J. R. Martinez, burned in war. Doug worked in 2005 with St. Barnabas Burn Center in West Orange, New Jersey, west of Hoboken. He says he wanted to do the State of Grace paintings to “stress the oneness of all people; that looks are deceiving; that our physicality is fleeting; and to understand that burn victims are ostracized from society because of their appearance.” See Doug Auld's websites at the end of this report.
