At least a few viewers who tuned into Danny Boyle’s pyrotechnics extravaganza remarked upon the UFO’s almost insouciant pacing as it appeared in real time. Although a blimp would seem the most likely candidate, given aerial coverage of the festivities, three days later no airship jockeys have bothered to man up and take credit for turning up in the footage.
