Nasa's Curiosity rover has back tracked on itself to study an unusual group of rocks unlike anything seen on Mars.

The rocks - dubbed 'Elk' and 'Lamoose' for their antler similarities - contain high levels of silica and hydrogen.

These, according to Nasa, could act like the Martian versions of amber, preserving evidence of organic materials that point to signs of ancient life.
