UPDATE: The original photo submitted to The Nevada County Scooper was a Photoshopped hoax by the name Toby "Doob" Carnevale. However, that was apparently manufactured following reports of a white beam coming from above downward reported to the Nevada City, California, newspaper.
August 21, 2015 - Nevada City, California - The Nevada County Scooper news near Lake Tahoe reported on August 17, 2015, that it received several "reports of a mysterious beam of light emanating from the sky above Nevada City, California," on that date. Eyewitnesses said the light beam appeared to come from the "upper atmosphere and landed on Coyote Street in north Nevada City." Several residents reported to The Nevada County Scooper that they heard a buzzing sound first, then saw the beam of light coming down that lasted for about two minutes. Witnesses emphasized that it was a cloudless, blue sky sunny day. "There was not a cloud in sight, so it wasn't lightning or anything like that," said Stacy Grant who saw the mysterious light beam after picking up her children from swimming at Pioneer Park in Nevada City.
