Val Johnson was driving the squad car in the early morning hours in an isolated road when he reportedly saw a bizarre bright object glowing in the air.
The mysterious orb then zapped into the car, engulfing it in light and leaving the officer unable to see.
He was later treated for the type of eye injury a welder might suffer.
After the stunned officer came round, the windscreen was cracked, aerials had warped and both the car's clock and his watch had stopped.
The case has striking similarities to the glowing orb UFOs said to have hounded motorists and stopped engines and clocks during the 1960s and 1970s in Warminster, Wiltshire, in the UK, although none of those sightings ended so violently.
