There has been no UFO sightings, cult rituals or mountain oyster fries that Sheriff T. Walton knows about.

But the mysterious mutilation of a bull in Harvey County has him and his department bewildered.

On Friday, a rancher found his Charolais bull dead and its genitals removed in pasture near Southeast 84th and Woodlawn. “We’ve had no other incidents like this,” said Walton Tuesday afternoon. “What we have is a dead bull, and we don’t know the reason why.”

At first, officials thought the bull had been shot. But a veterinarian did a necroposy of the animal and couldn’t determine the cause of death.

The sheriff’s department is waiting to hear back on the bull’s toxicology report. The bull could have been poisoned, but, Walton said, the other animals in the pasture are fine.

The bull wasn’t old, he said. He added the genitals weren’t removed by animals or coyotes, but were cut off.
