Patrick Reilly has reported his sighting to an official UFO research organisation for investigation.
He said he was ready to pack up and head inside when he realised the cloud cell was not going to produce any lightning.
But as he did, a disc-shaped unidentified flying object, UFO, appeared beyond it.
He said in a report to the investigators: "From my garden 20 km north of Brisbane I was watching an approaching cloud cell that looked like it might produce lightning as I am an avid storm chaser.
