The cyclone is 6000 miles (9,000km) across – more than three quarters of the diameter of Earth – and has appeared where no meteorological activity had ever been seen.
Online conspiracy were quick to suggest alien activity was behind the phenomenon with one contributor even claiming it was the result of a nuclear strike on Neptune.
But even the experts have been left baffled because the cyclone seems to break the laws of physics and meteorology.
