Video footage, captured in San Diego, California, US, shows the moment one family noticed the strange behaviour.
Chris Wilson, who was behind the camera, spotted the bright, white light shoot down from the sky.
“That’s crazy,” he says in the video as the shape suddenly stops and hovers.
