A war of words has broken out in the dark-matter community over a report posted on the arXiv preprint server earlier this week. The preprint from the XENON100 collaboration poured cold water on claims that dark matter has been detected by two other experiments – but now the report itself has been attacked by other researchers in the field.

"This is crucial to my unified explanation of both dark energy and dark matter as complementary phases of the quantum vacuum with virtual boson dominance in the former and disconnected virtual fermion closed loops in the latter. My prediction is no real dark matter exotic real particles of any kind whizzing through space in sufficient numbers to explain the~ 23% cosmic abundance." - Jack Sarfatti
