The main problem is as follows. Adult humans have enough trouble communicating with teenagers. Imagine what it would be like attempting to converse with a truly alien mind. So much of our worldview is tied to our neural architecture. Our appreciation of art and music, our social structure, religions, sense of humor, and so forth are all likely to be species-specific. An alien would make nothing of concepts like “emergence” or “patriotism,” still less of our sports or politics.
