An unexplained missile shot across the sky off the coast of Los Angeles and was caught on video by a CBS News traffic helicopter during Monday night's rush hour. Today, the missile is still a mystery. A Navy spokesman told CBS affiliate KFMB that it was not theirs, and so far the Pentagon has not been able to explain it either. The missile was reportedly about 35 miles west of L.A. and just north of Catalina Island.

NBC's Pentagon correspondent, Jim Miklaszewski, reports that a missile launch would not have been planned so close to a major city, and at the very least, residents would have been warned a test was imminent. A senior Pentagon official told him, "This is bizarre."

"This is bizarre."  That's all?  "Bizarre?"  Geez, you'd think that the DoD, DHS, DoJ, and any number of other federal agencies charged with protecting the nation and the public order would be freaked out about unknown entities launching missiles near major cities?  The mystery missile was apparently launched at sea, and was quite powerful, according to both witnesses and officials.  Definitely not something your typical model rocket enthusiast would be using, particularly out at sea.  Was this missile launched from a large ocean going vessel?  Or, from a submarine?  I'd expect to see an updated "official" government explanation soon, since it wouldn't look too good given the current geopolitical milieu for the US government to simply shrug their shoulders and say 'we don't know who launched the unidentified missile.'  But if no official explanation is forthcoming, then fully expect this story to quickly and quietly vanish down the MSM memory hole.  To read the rest of the article, click here.  For the news video, click here.
