The development of high-powered quantum computers will break encryption currently used to protect people’s private messages within years, a Swiss technology business has claimed.

Terra Quantum, headquartered in the Swiss town of Rorschach, has published research claiming that the widely used AES encryption algorithm “may appear fenceless against upcoming threats". 

“It has a huge impact for the whole quantum community but for almost any industry that deals with confidential data,” said chief executive Markus Pflitsch. “Post-quantum security is an issue today. It just can't wait and that's why we felt we have to warn the world.”
