NASA is building tiny robots that can search for life in the subsurface oceans of Jupiter's moon Europa or Saturn's moon Enceladus.
Robotic engineer Ethan Schaler of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has developed a concept of small robots that, working in a group, will be able to better explore the oceans on the satellites of the planets of the solar system than other modern research vehicles, according to SciTechDaily.
Shaler has already received a grant of $600,000 to develop his project to create floating mini-robots. The scientist believes that his group of small robots, which will be placed in a special probe, will be the most effective means to explore the underground oceans and search for potential life. In particular, these robots will be able to study the composition of the oceans and conditions for possible life on Jupiter's moon Europa or Saturn's moon Enceladus.
