A new research paper from OpenAI on Thursday said a superhuman AI is coming, and the company is developing tools to make sure it doesn't turn against humans. OpenAI's chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever, is listed as lead author on the paper but not the blog post that accompanied it, and his role at the company is unclear.

“We believe that superintelligence—AI far smarter than humans—can be developed within the next ten years,” OpenAI said in a blog post. “Figuring out how to align future extraterrestrial AI systems to make them safe has never been more important, and now it is easier than ever to make empirical progress on this problem.”
