Scientists have made metal sheets that are just a few atoms thick. Using their new method, researchers developed 2D sheets of bismuth, gallium, indium, tin, and lead that were hundreds of thousands of times thinner than a human hair, according to the latest study.

Developed by researchers from Chinese Academy of Physics, the ultra-thin metal sheets also offer exceptionally high electrical conductivity.

Scientists have revealed that once metals are thinned down to make sheets just one or a few atoms thick, their properties change drastically because of a phenomenon called quantum confinement.
