This schematic illustrates how atomic-scale Ni catalysts embedded in a porous graphene matrix address key challenges in Li–O₂ batteries. By simultaneously enhancing cathode reaction kinetics and stabilizing the lithium metal anode, the Ni–N/rGO material mitigates oxygen-induced corrosion, lithium dendrite formation, and active site degradation. The result is a battery system with ultrahigh discharge capacity, improved cycling life, faster kinetics, and lower overpotential—paving the way for safer, longer-lasting energy storage.
