Editor’s note: When we start to explore the oceans on other worlds we will need to be ready to utilize a wide range of detection methods optical, auditory – and seismic. Optical cables have already been employed to track Earth’s seismic activity. They can also be used to listen for the movement of life forms in the ocean – especially large ones like whales.
