IonQ announced Tuesday what it describes as the industry's first end-to-end real-time quantum error correction decoder, sending IonQ stock up more than 11% on Wednesday.

The decoder runs on a single off-the-shelf central processing unit, the company said. In conventional systems, error-correction workloads can overwhelm classical processors, causing the quantum hardware to stall while it waits for decoding to catch up. IonQ's approach allows the decoding to run continuously in the background without interrupting the quantum computer's operation.
