Representative Tim Burchett, a Tennessee Republican, gave an update about being briefed on unidentified flying objects (UFOs) during a new interview with Stephen A. Smith.

Newsweek reached out to a spokesperson for Burchett for comment via email.

The possibility of extraterrestrial life has captivated the American public for decades, and President Donald Trump said in February he would order the release of documents related to alien and extraterrestrial life, as well as UFOs. Governments have never confirmed the existence of extraterrestrial life, but debate about its possibility continues.

Burchett has been a long-time advocate for transparency around the U.S. government's investigations into UFOs.

Burchett told Smith he has been “briefed by the highest level of either our military intelligence,” and there is one group within the “alphabet agencies” saying “these things don’t exist,” but that military people are “telling us that something does exist.”
