Ah, warp drive! Secret to faster-than-light travel, perhaps, or at least a tantalizing means of enabling human beings to explore the distant reaches of space some day!
Perhaps that's why there was yet another intriguing scientific paper exploring the possibility of warp drive this month, courtesy of a University of Maryland physicist named Igor Smolyaninov, this time employing so-called metamaterials to achieve the version of warp drive first conceived by physicist Miguel Albucierre, a Star Trek fan who became intrigued by the notion of whether such a thing might be possible.
