Jack,

Make sure Kim and the others see this.  It's my response to the documentation.

I read through the documents (which wasn't easy as many of them are damn near illegible)  and they do state that UFOs were observed near the bases from October 1975 to July 1976.  But Occam's Razor doesn't cut in favor of ETs.

The UFOs were described as helicopters and planes that sounded like they were propelled by jet engines. And the documents certainly do not state, or even imply that, " Disk-shaped objects were standing on end motionless in the air over underground missile bases, while more than 10 missiles were immobilized in their silos. This went on for about an hour. During that time, all of the affected missiles went into a no-launch condition creating a big panic in SAC."

Further, nothing in the documents stated, or implied that, "Clearly a message was being sent by an intelligent race which amounts to "Don't even think about using them, we won't allow it."

This is what I was objecting to: using documentation of UFOs as a spring-board to conclude that UFOs are ETs, and that these ETs are clearly sending us a message not to use nuclear weapons, or whatever else someone thinks we shouldn't be using.

I have no problem with belief in ETs.  For many reasons I believe ETs should exist, and hope they do.  As opposed to Hawking, I'm not afraid of them.  But, belief is one thing, and knowledge based on physical proof is another.  So, until I see some physical evidence of ETs---a non carbon-based body, intergalactic diodes or a liter or two of dark energy in a fuel tank---I'll continue to believe in the possibility of ETs while I wait for the proof.  (BTW, I'm being facetious regarding the types of physical proof that might exist.  My examples indicate how little I know about the possible make-up of ETs and their gear.  However, I do think I'd know physical proof if, and when, it's presented.)
