Battery maker ION Storage Systems has taken a major step toward commercialization after recently producing its first multi-layer solid-state battery (SSB) cell in its facility in Beltsville, USA, marking a significant advance in scalable energy storage solutions.
This achievement brings the Maryland-based company closer to launching its compression-free, anodeless solid-state battery, paving the way for a solution that can serve a wide range of customers.
“There’s a growing demand for safer, more powerful, and fully recyclable batteries, and ION’s technology is built to meet that need,” said Jorge Diaz Schneider, ION Storage Systems CEO.
“The successful production of our multi-layer solid-state battery cell is a major step toward commercialization, and we’re thrilled to reach this milestone.”
This development builds on ION’s recent announcement that its single-layer 40×40 millimeter cell delivered a remarkable 25-fold increase in capacity and exceeded 1,000 charge cycles.
According to the company, the success further validates the strength and reliability of the company’s ceramic solid-state battery platform, reinforcing its potential for scalable, next-generation energy storage.
