drone and missile-killer laser weapon developed by Beijing for deployment on ships is more powerful than its counterparts in the United States, according to claims by a Chinese military magazine.
The mysterious laser weapon was displayed at China’s Victory Day parade in Beijing in September, and since then, speculations have been rife over its capabilities.
The Chinese military magazine, Ordnance Industry Science Technology, says that the Liaoyuan-1 (LY-1) laser weapon will serve as the last line of air defense for ships. The magazine says that it will be tasked with “close interception of incoming missiles and drones.”
It suggests that the laser weapon will work alongside the long-range, medium-range, and short-range naval air defense missile systems to ensure any threat is decimated before it can hurt the ship.
